“Starting The Day Off Right”

Breakfast can be a challenge to most of us. We all want that extra 30 mins or hour of sleep. Are you an excessive snoozer? Sometimes I can be. When I do this….excuse my french but my day goes to shit! I feel very lethargic and weak when I skip breakfast. I make very strong efforts to avoid doing this and so should you. I’ll give you a few reasons why!

 

Metabolism

You wake your metabolism up the minute food or drink touches your stomach. Our goal is to speed our metabolism up and keep it going in order to keep us from putting pounds on. Metabolism plays a huge role in our physical appearance. We slow our metabolism down by starving ourselves or eating things that that take a while to digest like red meat. This is why it’s important to eat 5-6 small meals a day. Think of your metabolism as a fire. You keep a fire burning by feeding it more wood. This is the same for your metabolism. Keep it fired up by feeding yourself. Try drinking a glass of water with a lemon within 30 minutes of waking up. This will alkalinize your stomach naturally prepping it to break down food easier and it also serves as a great detox. Follow this with a breakfast that will keep you satiated. I always go for protein and fruit. Eggs are my absolute favorite! I feel so energized when I have my egg whites! I’ll even do some good carbs besides fruits or veggies like whole grain oats or whole grain english muffins topped with almond butter or avocado for my healthy fats. Avocados are a healthy fat that helps us burn fat. It also provides energy for storage so those are always a good choice in the morning. Try some of these options for breakfast!

 

  • Eggs or egg whites
  • Omelets (go easy on the cheeses…choose a white cheese if you have mouse tendencies)
  • Greek yogurt (great additions below)
    • Berries
    • Green apples
    • Mixed nuts
    • Hemp seeds
    • Chia Seeds
    • Granola
  • Whole wheat english muffin sandwich w/ eggs
  • Whole grain oatmeal or steel cut oats (Add some of the additions above!)
  • Fruit Smoothie
    • Adding protein powder will keep you full longer

 

Focus

Feeding yourself in the morning enhances your focus. A healthy breakfast strengthens your brain muscles. Now donuts on the other hand will cause your blood sugar to spike and then drop causing you to be tired and irritable. We can’t get anything done under those conditions!

 

Energy

 

Increase your energy at the top of the day with quality fuel. Eating breakfast helps your body wake up and get moving. If you start your day off strong by eating a healthy breakfast, you’re more likely to be productive and have a better disposition. Be on the up and up….not a downer!

 

In conclusion, when you set your alarm at night, try to take into consideration how you want your day to go and how you want to feel. Set aside time for breakfast….besides….no one wants to hear your tummy cussing you out for not feeding it!!! Hehehe;)
